A little while ago, I was commissioned to write a story for a book which came to be titled ‘Beacons’, edited by th very talented Gregory Norminton. The book is a collection of short stories about climate change, and all proceeds of the books’ sales will go the the chairty Stop Climate Chaos. The book is published by Oneworld, and features stories from A.L. Kennedy, Toby Litt, Joanne Harris, Liz Jenson, Adam Marek, James Miller, Rodge Glass and many more. If you’d like to buy a copy, visit the site here. You can even buy a Kindle version here.

And even better – if you’d like to hear readings from Gregory, James, Rodge and me, then come along to our London launch at Waterstone’s Piccadilly on 21st May at 6.30pm.

I am back! I had a fantastic time at the Kikinda Short festival this year. It was a privelege to meet and listen to so many fantastic short story writers, and to see how popular the short story is worldwide. It’s easy to dismiss the short story but the work I heard was scintillating, precise and captivating.

Thanks to Srdjan Srdic and Vera Papic, and to Edi Matic these photos. And thanks all for organising such a fantastic festival!

Leaf Pictures

August 29, 2010

From April this year, here are the pictures from the launch of the Leaf Writers’ Magazine in Cardiff, with Jasper Fforde and Simone Mansell Broome.

Don’t forget that I’m reading at Hay Festival this Sunday, 6th June. It’s part of an event based around ‘coming of age’ novels, so I’ll be reading with Stephen May, author of Tag (Cinnamon Press), and Elaine Walker, author of The Horses (Cinnamon Press), and answering some questions from Jan Fortune-Wood, who is editor at Cinnamon Press.

It starts at 11am in the Welsh Literature marquee on the main festival site, and best of all, it’s free entry. See you there!
