A little while ago, I was commissioned to write a story for a book which came to be titled ‘Beacons’, edited by th very talented Gregory Norminton. The book is a collection of short stories about climate change, and all proceeds of the books’ sales will go the the chairty Stop Climate Chaos. The book is published by Oneworld, and features stories from A.L. Kennedy, Toby Litt, Joanne Harris, Liz Jenson, Adam Marek, James Miller, Rodge Glass and many more. If you’d like to buy a copy, visit the site here. You can even buy a Kindle version here.

And even better – if you’d like to hear readings from Gregory, James, Rodge and me, then come along to our London launch at Waterstone’s Piccadilly on 21st May at 6.30pm.

About The Schoolboy

Controversial, dark and funny; The Schoolboy is an astonishing psychological study of a disturbed adolescent mind, a commentary on morality and society and a gripping read from one of the most talented young writers around.

The Schoolboy follows Nick in his last year at school. Plagued by secrets, self doubt, guilt and fury, the flaws in his character inevitably lead him into the hands of the damaged, unscrupulous and malevolent. With his options rapidly closing Nick, as insecure as he is angry, has to make decisions fast.

“The Schoolboy is an astonishing debut from an outstanding young writer. With her sharp, uncluttered prose and spiky wit, Holly Howitt explores a teenage boy’s inner violence and sexual rage with a finely-tuned ear for the nuances of spoken language and a superb eye for detail…a brilliant and shocking novella from a highly talented young writer.”

Readings and Launches

July 25, 2009

I’ll be reading from Dinner Time at an event in Shrewsbury in a few weeks’ time. The event is called ‘Platform’, a creative showcase, which has been running in Shrewsbury for some time. I will be reading on 6th August, and the venue is The Loft (upstairs), The Old Post Office, Milk Street. The event starts at 8.30pm, and there will be music from a live band, a full bar, and the chance to buy a copy of Dinner Time, if you haven’t already.

Secondly, I’ll be launching my new novel, The Schoolboy, at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, on the 15th September. Keep popping back to the site to have the time confirmed, and please remember to put both dates in your diary!
